Public Hearing

Representative Roland Lemar has just released the draft of a bill (HB 5429) that would institute a wide range of measures to make our streets safer, especially for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable users. The bill would allow up to ten cities to implement pilot studies for automated speed enforcement in school zones and would allow similar pilot studies in work zones across the state. (Though this will be the most debated provision, the bill proposes a whole lot more — see the document for details.)

The public hearing will be this Wednesday, January 27th. Though we think this need for this bill is clear, and that it has a good chance of passing this year, we will need to show legislators state-wide how broadly and strongly their constituents back this bill.

We're calling on all safe streets advocates to:

- Submit written testimony (by Jan 27 @ 1pm)

- Provide in-person (Zoom) testimony (register by Jan 26th @ 5pm) (doing both is not redundant and you are welcome to use the very same language)

- Share this with your networks, especially with anyone in other parts of CT.
